Prior to Fiona's leg problems, she was a very energetic dog. She would chase Triton around the yard, wrestle with him in the house, we would take her on hikes and she would swim in the river... My favorite was when she used to stand on her back to legs and we would "dance."
Ever since she lost the ability to use her leg, I've been so concerned about her being able to do these things again. I knew she would eventually adapt, but how much would actually be lost with the loss of her leg? Well today she showed me how everything is going to be just fine.
When my alarm goes off in the morning, I typically lay in bed for a good while playing on my phone, trying to "wake up." If I've been doing this for too long, according to Fiona, she would come over and put her paws on the bed and either lick my face or hand, or try to nuzzle me in to giving her attention. It was my favorite way to wake up. She, understandably, stopped doing that when her back leg started bothering her, probably unable to balance on one leg. This morning, however, I guess I was laying in bed for too long and she came over and put her paws on the bed. I had my back turned to that side and thought it was Triton. When I rolled over and saw Fiona, I was so excited!! She had managed to pull herself up again! My sweet girl is going to be ok and now I know I will be ok too. 💜
